BURSARIES

Winchester has one of the most generous bursary programmes in the country with nearly 20% of the pupils receiving financial support. This means that we can look for those who have the intellectual spark and curiosity to take advantage of everything the school has to offer, irrespective of socio-economic backgrounds.

This would not be possible without the considerable generosity of the Wykehamical Community.

However, we believe that this is not enough. In the short term, we aim to grow this provision by 25% to 150 pupils in 2024. We remain committed to tackling inequality of access and each year welcome pupils from diverse backgrounds. Until the endowment grows sufficiently, we are still limiting bursary awards, as demand is growing quicker than our ability to meet it.

WYKEHAM AWARD

In September 2021 the Wykeham Award was launched which is a dedicated means-tested bursary for Sixth Form pupils who are currently studying at a UK state secondary school. It can cover up to 100% of the fees, as well as associated expenses. This academic year nine pupils will receive a Wykeham Award costing a total of £284,000.

WARDEN SINCLAIR FUND

The Warden Sinclair Fund was set up in honour of former Warden Charles Sinclair (B,1961-66) and his distinguished service to the school. The fund enables bursary holders to enjoy the full extra-curricular experience of Winchester. It has paid for educational trips, sports kit, travel to interviews, exam fees and additional music lessons.

HOUSE BURSARIES
